French and his brother Joshua French) started a banking house called French and Co. Earlier Daniel began a mercantile business in the mid 1860's in The Dalles. This structure has been known as French & Co. Bank from 1879 and as the Citizen's Bank in 1926. It has been known it as the Gayer Building, which for a long time was a jewelry store. The building has three apartments on the second floor, all with access to a rooftop deck. Main floor has a nice corner retail space of approx 2,300 sq ft
